Playwright-director Clinton Marius showcases popular Durban actress Shona Johnson in a sizzling new comedy...
Shona Johnson, one of Durban’s most admired new-generation stars, makes her debut solo appearances this festive season at the Catalina Theatre in B!#ch Stole My Doek - a new adult comedy, written and directed by award-winning playwright, Clinton Marius (Lollipop Lane, The Fantastical Flea Circus). The premiere production runs from 10 to 21 December 2014.
Presented by Copy Dog Productions, this raucous satire, set in Wentworth, pokes fun at a war of words between two women over a missing item of laundry. Colourful language and irrational hysteria offer an insider’s view of life in the southern suburbs, as the comical battle between neighbours heats up and boils over, with unexpected results.
“Shona delighted youngsters when she performed in my recent production of The Fantastical Flea Circus in the Catalina Theatre’s inaugural Children’s Theatre Festival. Working with her inspired me to create a wicked comedy built around her special gifts as a comedienne,” says Marius.
The actress also commands a fast-growing following of adult fans, through her appearances in the Catalina’s Whose Line Is It Anyway style improv comedy show, What Kind?
Johnson graduated with the “Best Student in Drama Studies” award at DUT in 2008. In 2009, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts Honours degree from UKZN. As an actress, she has been nominated for four Mercury Durban Theatre Awards. She has appeared in The Wheel; The Credit Crunch Christmas; Animal Tails 1 & 2; It’s All Fright by Me; PopCom; Journeying Home; Reality Bytes; Consenting Silence and Beyond the Big Bangs. She currently teaches at the Helen O’ Grady Drama Academy and has started her own company, AWEH! Theatre, which focuses on children’s theatre.
