Clinton Marius’s multi award winning comedy B!*ch Stole My Doek starring Shona Johnson makes a triumphant return to 2016 National Arts Festival after sweeping the boards during its debut seasons around the country last year.
After winning a Standard Bank Ovation Award on the 2015 National Arts Festival Fringe, B!*ch Stole My Doek wowed audiences at last year’s Cape Town Fringe Festival before going on to garner six Mercury Durban Theatre Award nominations last November, winning three awards in the categories of New South African Script for Marius, and Lead Actress Comedy/Drama and Comedic Performance Female for Johnson.
Hailed as a “One-woman comedy riot” (Estelle Sinkins, The Witness), B!*ch Stole My Doek “has you laughing from start to finish” wrote Latoya Newman in The Daily News, while The Mercury’s arts editor Billy Suter found the show “a triumph for both Johnson and Marius.”
A raucous satire with a twist, B!*ch Stole My Doek pokes fun at a war of words between two women over a missing item of laundry. Colourful language and irrational hysteria offer an insider’s view of life in Durban’s southern suburb of Wentworth, as the comical battle between neighbours heats up and boils over, with unexpected results.
