With 22 years of success in the entertainment industry, The Melanie Kisten Dance Academy (MKDA) has become one of the most sought-after dance schools in KZN, and under the leadership of former Mrs India SA first runner up, choreographer, actress, and MC, Melanie Kisten, the academy continues to grow…
Central to Kisten’s teaching method is the belief that Dance is a divine art which inspires self-expression and confidence. “Through a fun programme - where technique is refined and creativity unleashed - our students build confidence in their talent, and as a result, confidence in themselves,” says Kisten. “I see so much talent and dedication in the several hundred students that join us each year, and it is our goal to nurture these youngsters in becoming amazing performers. Registration for 2018 is now open, and we look forward to welcoming the next generation of eager dancers.”
“Students of all ages are given equal and fair attention by professional and dedicated instructors,” adds Kisten, “and the unique, fun and dynamic methods of teaching ensure that learning is as enjoyable as possible.” Kisten, recently seen as Crab Aunty in the smash hit movie comedy, Keeping Up with The Kandasamy’s, is a much-loved and hard-working community figure. “When I look at all my students, and their love for dance, I feel so much joy. Along with my team of teachers, I play an integral part in their journey – and it is thanks to these youngsters taking up the torch, that our culture will endure.”
Every MKDA student has an opportunity to perform in front of an audience, which boosts their self-confidence, and showcases their talents. MKDA productions have sold-out runs wherever they are staged. Last year’s production, The Bread, The Porridge and The Mix Masala - in which even four-year-old children got to showcase their talent - played to capacity audiences at Sibaya’s iZulu Theatre.
“If your child has dreams of becoming a star, or you’d like to build their confidence, or even just let them enjoy dancing for fun - then MKDA is the place to be. If you dance with your heart, Dance will never leave your heart,” says Kisten. “Whatever your body type, large or small, short or tall – we believe in A.B.C.D. Any Body Can Dance!”
MKDA teaches Modern and Indian Dancing, Hip Hop and Drama to students from four years and older, and classes are held in Merebank, Croftdene, Woodhurst, and Phoenix. Classes are R140 per month.
