As the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra continues to uphold their core goals of excellence, innovation and community engagement, they also present concerts that highlight the cultural heritage of our country.  Be sure to catch their Winter Season concerts featuring a roster of international guest stars and top flight South African artists in the Playhouse Opera Theatre each Thursday at 7.30pm throughout June.

Dance lovers be sure to catch Love of Dance in the Drama Theatre on 16 June, with shows at 2.30 and 6pm. You’ll be able to revel in a symphony of colour and music from the world of dance, featuring the work of some of our leading choreographers.

 

Cetshwayo, the Musical, featuring a 40-member cast runs in the Drama Theatre from 20 to 23 June. Presented by the Wushwini Pan African Centre for Arts Culture and Heritage, in association with the Playhouse Company and the KZN Department of Arts and Culture, the production retells the story of the epic victory of the Zulu nation against British troops in 1879 at the seminal Battle of Isandlwana. Featuring Nhlakanipho Maphumulo as Mnyamana, the musical is the brainchild of Jerry Pooe as the writer and director, with Mbuso Khoza as the music director.

 

Northcliff High School’s national tours of musicals which have become perennial favourites with Playhouse audiences. This year’s offering is the musical comedy, Sister Act.  Deloris Carter, a nightclub singer, witnesses her gangland boyfriend bump off one of his hoodlums and has to hide in a convent until the trial and, while there, she takes on the task of transforming the abysmal nun`s choir into a singing sensation that gets to sing before the pope! Catch this fun show in the Drama Theatre from 26 June to 1 July.

 

Laughter is always the best medicine! The Fig Five Comedy Show is set take the Playhouse Opera Theatre by storm on 29 and 30 June at 8pm! Presented by Taylormade Productions and supported by East Coast Radio and Comedy Central, this epic ensemble has SA Stand-Up comedy giants Nik Rabinowitz, Krijay Govender, Jason Goliath, Stuart Taylor and Kagiso Lediga bringing the funny to stage along with the legendary DJ Ready D rocking the decks. And if it’s more laughs you’re after, be sure to catch another comedy fest featuring the best of SA comedians live as seen in Mzansi Comedy in The Opera on 5 July at 7.30pm.
